When the school year starts, Wilmer is still out in the fields. His family needs him to earn money for a full three months before they can afford to lose his income while he’s in class, so he usually starts his grade a month late. Even during the school year, the 13-year-old needs to balance his studies with contributing to the family finances. It Starts by Being Seen
The dentist was focused on his patient, one of our Vida Chijacorral students. His wife, helping out with the examinations, had her eyes on the mom waiting for her child. “Can you check her too?” she asked her husband when they stepped out of the room for a moment. “She looks swollen to me.” The mom had come into the clinic to seek care for her child, but thanks to the sharp eyes of one of our dental volunteers, her needs were seen too. School is back in session in Guatemala, and the kids are settling into their school routines. The Vida School theme this year is “Be An Example” (based on 1 Tim 4:12) and our students are learning how to set an example “in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Some quick updates: We’re excited to have twelve new classes of children at our Vida schools this year.
