Moving to a new town is hard enough when you’re 8. But as Evelyn’s family was getting ready to move from Senahú to Purulhá, her mom had some devastating news for her. When we move, Evelyn was told, we can’t afford to keep sending you to school.
When you come from a single-parent family where your teenaged sister is the only breadwinner, education becomes a luxury.
This is why sponsorship is so important in Guatemala. Because sponsorship is why Evelyn is back in school.
When they arrived at their new home, Evelyn’s mother met a neighbor who knew about Vida Schools.
“Each child has a sponsor who provides consistent support for a daily breakfast, medical care, uniforms, and other blessings,” the neighbour explained.
And that made all the difference.
Evelyn was so thankful when she was able to enroll in Vida Nueva School. A week later, she had a sponsor!
In May, we celebrate sponsorship at Impact Ministries. We celebrate the stories of children like Evelyn, and the sponsors who make these stories possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Today, Evelyn is 10 years old and in Grade 5. School has provided her with a safe space, full of learning and hope and the love of God. She dreams of a future where she can help her family. And she dreams of becoming a teacher, so that other children like her can have access to education too. Vida Schools and sponsorship are giving her the tools to make that future possible.
This May, will you be part of making all the difference for more children like Evelyn? Join us in finding sponsors for children and classes who are still waiting:
- Find children and classes still waiting for a sponsor on Sponsorsoft
- Share sponsorship with friends or family members. Tell them Evelyn’s story, or share your own experience with sponsoring a child or class
- Pray for sponsors for each child and class
Thank you for praying for, sharing about, and sponsoring children and classes in Guatemala!
(Be part of celebrating sponsorship with us all month! Join us on Facebook or Instagram for more stories, and watch your mailbox for the Spring Newsletter.)
